Straw pleads India's cause with China

BEIJING APRIL 1. The British Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, has sought China's help to end Pakistan's continued support to cross-border terrorism in India and to bring about peace and stability in South Asia.

Mr. Straw made this appeal to his Chinese counterpart, Li Zhaoxing, during their first telephonic talk on Monday evening, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman told reporters at a biweekly news conference on Tuesday.

"During the telephone conversation between the Chinese Foreign Minister, Li Zhaoxing, and the British Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, the two sides discussed the situation in South Asia, including the relations between India and Pakistan," the spokesman said. — PTI
