TVS Motor sales grow

TVS Motor Company closed the financial year 2002-03 on a positive note with a 29 per cent growth in overall volume sales over the previous financial year against the total industry growth of around 17 per cent. The company's total sales during 2002-03 crossed the one million mark with an aggregate of 11.19 lakh units against 8.66 lakh units in the previous year.

Motorcycle sales rose by 60 per cent to 7.19 lakh units from 4.50 lakh units. The flagship brand TVS Victor sales crossed the half-a-million mark since its launch. Sales of scooterette have increased to 1.52 lakh units from 1.44 lakh units. In March, the company's motorcycle sales registered a growth of two per cent at 55,659 units (54,675 units), scooterette at 8,457 units (8,589 units) and moped sales at 20,899 units against 24,259 in March 2002.

In the fourth quarter the company recorded a 12 per cent growth in overall sales at 2.74 lakh units against 2.46 lakh units in the same period in the previous year.

The company maintained its leadership in the mopeds and ungeared scooter segments with sales of 64,495 units and 31,733 units respectively in this quarter compared with 70,889 units and 27,379 units in the period under review.
