Priced at around Rs. 20 lakhs, the Grand Vitara XL-7 is scheduled for national launch in the current month. The SUV will be the first model to be launched by Suzuki Motor Corporation in India after it took management control of Maruti Udyog in May last. According to the company, there are very few SUVs in India as only utility vehicles are available here. Their engine, performance, size and luxury are much below SUVs. These are popular in Europe and the U.S. In the U.S., sales of SUVs in 2002 were 38 lakh units, which is about 6 times the total car market in India.
