Elephants cremated

By Our Staff Reporter

DHARMAPURI APRIL 1. The carcass of five elephants, including two calves, which were fatally hit by a rail engine at Chinna Ullukuruki between Royakottai and Kelamangalam was cremated today.

The herd, which had strayed from the forests in search of water, was crossing the track when a rail engine bound for Bangalore from Salem ploughed through it on Sunday night.

The elephants were cremated and not buried since it was not possible to move machines either to dig trenches or remove the carcass.
