BANGALORE, APRIL 1. Bharat Earth Movers Ltd. (BEML) has registered a record sales turnover of Rs. 1,675 crore for the financial year ending March 31. The company registered a growth of 17.63 per cent over the previous year's turnover. The profit before tax (PBT) stood at Rs. 31 crore, compared to Rs. 13 crore last year. During the year, BEML commissioned the third multi-crore walking dragline, Balram, at Northern Coalfields Ltd., Nigahi Project, in Madhya Pradesh. BEML has also forayed into manufacture of state-of-the-art rail systems to produce modern metro coaches in its Railcoach factory in Bangalore. It will soon bid for supply of hitech and high-speed stainless steel coaches for metro rail projects. The company has set itself a target of Rs. 1,760 crore for 2003-04, including exports of Rs. 100 crore. It has a carry forward order booking of Rs. 1,500 crore.
