VHP meeting soon to discuss future plans

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI APRIL 1. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad will call a meeting of prominent members soon to consider the next phase of its agitation for the construction of a Ram temple at Ayodhya, its leader, Giriraj Kishore, said here today.

With the first phase drawing to a close tomorrow, the VHP would meet shortly to decide on the future course. The second phase would go as scheduled during which a signature campaign would be launched in parliamentary constituencies to determine those who stand for the construction of temple, he said.

Referring to the apex court judgment, Acharya Kishore said that until now the VHP had been demanding that only the undisputed site be handed over to the Ramjanmabhoomi Nyas. Now, it would demand that the Government bring forward a legislation through Parliament and hand over to the Nyas land including the disputed site. He said the Supreme Court judgment did not elaborate on the point of law. On the penultimate day of its satyagraha, the VHP announced that over 22,000 people, including senior VHP and Sangh Parivar leaders and four MPs, had taken part in the programme.

Meanwhile, the Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan today hailed the Supreme Court judgment and said the "mischievous and crude attempt" of the BJP-led NDA Government to "hoodwink" the nation through the Judiciary to appease the VHP had been exposed.
