SP promises action against mafia

By Our Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA April 1. The new Pathanamthitta District Superintendent of Police, Dinendra Kashyap, has said that he would initiate stern action against the sand and liquor mafia in the district and ensure peace and justice to the common man in this Central Travancore belt.

Reacting to reports on the thriving mafia in the district, the SP has said that his first endeavour would be to prepare the police machinery to act fearlessly and in a just and people-friendly manner. Moreover, confidence of the general public in the law and order machinery is a prime requisite for effective policing. According to him, it is equally important to redress the grievances of the Police Department staff to the extent possible so as to create a healthy working atmosphere and ensure effective policing.

Mr. Kashyap, a 1998 batch IPS officer from Bihar, is a product of the National Defence Academy and was Commandant of the KAP Vth battalion in Thrissur before being posted SP here.

The public pulse in this otherwise peaceful district shows that the majority middle class has welcomed the posting of the new SP which has already sent shock waves among the mafia here.

He has also stressed the need to improve the basic facilities at the District Armed Reserve Police camp here. Lack of cleanliness is a major problem at the camp, he said after a visit to the camp this morning.
