Leaning lamp-posts pose a threat

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI MARCH 22 . Apart from holding fused bulbs in their glass cases, the lamp-posts on the GST Road pose another problem. They pose a serious threat to vehicles, especially buses, as some of them lean far too dangerously into the carriageways. Lamp-posts getting knocked off by rashly driven vehicles, especially tipper lorries, has become a common sight on the GST Road.

One such lamp-post, near the Chromepet police station, lies in a precarious position. It is not known how the post has been damaged.

The lack of sufficient lighting compounds to the problem. Motorists find it a great risk to negotiate the construction site of the MIT bridge, especially late in the evening.

Lack of lighting on this National Highway has been bothering the local residents for long.

For several months, the lamps have remained that way and none of the government agencies concerned seem to have taken any concerted effort to ensure that roads are well illuminated.
