`Additional flights from Kuwait if needed'

By Our Staff Correspondent

NEW DELHI MARCH 22. The Centre will operate additional flights from Kuwait to bring back Indians, if the need arose. The assurance was given by the Civil Aviation Minister, Shahnawaz Hussain, to a delegation from Kerala that called on him today to discuss the situation arising out of the Iraq war even as the Civil Aviation Secretary, K. Roy Paul, is being sent to Kuwait tomorrow to make an on-the-spot assessment of the arrangements.

The Minister told the delegation, led by the Minister for Non-Resident Keralite Affairs, M.M. Hassan, that Air India has been operating Boeing 747 instead of Airbus 310 in view of the demand for more seats as the schools in Kuwait have also closed for summer vacation.

The delegation from Kerala included the Tourism Minister, K.V. Thomas, and the Works Minister, M.K. Muneer, besides Mr. Hassan.
