Focus will be on tourism

By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry March 22 . The Education and Tourism Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan, has said his visits to Berlin and France were productive and that foreigners were aware of the features of Pondicherry. On his return today, he said the visits helped him and the other participants to establish a rapport for inter-State development of tourism in collaboration with Kerala, Andhra, Tamil Nadu and a few other States.

Stating that the flow of tourists, both domestic and foreign, had been on the increase in Pondicherry, Mr. Lakshminarayanan said last year 5.5 lakh domestic tourists and 25,000 foreigners visited Pondicherry.

Promotion of tourism would be focussed in the budget session of the Assembly.

The Centre would soon release Rs. 5 crores for beautification of the beach and illumination of certain premises.
