Bright students to be funded under MPLADS

SIRSI MARCH 22 . Margaret Alva, Kanara MP, has said that she will distribute Rs. one lakh each from the MP's Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) to six students securing ranks in SSLC and degree examinations for higher studies.

She was participating in a function organised by the Uttara Kannada District Social Reforms Women's Association to celebrate the birthday of orphans here on Friday.

Emphasising the need to identify poor children and women, she said they should be brought into the mainstream.

Ms. Margaret Alva distributed clothes to the orphans on the occasion.

The President of the Uttara Kannada District Congress Committee, Shantaram Hegde, presided over the function.

The Vice-President of the Uttara Kannada Zilla Panchayat, Rama Moger, the former MLA, Gopal Kanade, the former president of the Uttara Kannada Zilla Panchayat, S.B. Gouda, and the President of the Sirsi Town Planning Authority, Deepak Honnavar, were present on the occasion.

Kalawati Vaz, president of the association, welcomed the gathering. Suma Ugranakar, secretary, proposed a vote of thanks.
