Cut T&D losses: PMK

CHENNAI MARCH 11. The PMK founder, S. Ramadoss, today suggested a reduction in transmission and distribution loss as an alternative to raising the power tariff.

In a statement, he said it would be wrong to assume that the losses of the Electricity Board were caused by free power supply to farmers.

Power theft was actually the main reason. There were also irregularities in the purchase of transformers and other equipment.

Another reason for the mounting losses was purchase of power from private producers at a high cost, he said.
