Govt. has misled Governor: Prakash

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore March 11. M.P.Prakash, senior JD(U) leader, today said in the Legislative Council that the Governor had been misled by the Government on several issues and that the Governor's address to the Legislature was akin to the report of a deputy commissioner.

Speaking on the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address to the Legislature, Mr. Prakash said while he had high regard for the Governor, there was no need to thank the Governor as his address did not reflect the aspirations of the people.

The address was bereft of any ideology.

He wondered whether the Governor could have refused to read the address prepared by the Government on the pretext that it was at variance with the ground situation.

The Government had failed miserably on several fronts such as decentralisation of panchayati raj institutions, drinking water supply in rural areas and so on.

Mr. Prakash said the Government had come out with a report which stated that a million jobs in the knowledge-based industries would be created in the near future.

This was a clear reflection of its "elitist" thinking. The Government had to get its priorities right particularly when much of the rural population, hit by drought, had been rendered jobless.

Intervening, the Minister of State for Primary Education, B.K.Chandrashekar, clarified that the Government was keen on giving emphasis to the hardware sector of the knowledge-based industry for which the level of education was not as high as in the software sector.

This meant that jobs were not meant for only the elite.
