World Cup
Though West Indies is the official host of the 2007 World Cup, the ICC is contemplating holding some of the matches in the United States and might even use Disney World as a venue. Though the United States has hardly any cricket infrastructure worth the name, it is an economic power and the ICC wants to capitalise on this and has decided to stage several matches in the United States when the World Cup is held in the West Indies in four years' time. The ICC plans have not been well received by some officials from the Caribbean islands, who fear that they may not get the chance of staging many matches. World Cup 2007 tournament organiser West Indies managing director Chris Dehring, who will decide where games are played, said putting some games on in America could help the sport in the long run. "The ICC have objectives for (developing cricket in) the US and, as a member of the international cricket community, we would naturally look at supporting the ICC's objectives. The 2007 World Cup is such an opportunity, so it will be explored," he said.
