India denies obstructing SAARC process
By Our Diplomatic Correspondent
NEW DELHI
MARCH 3.
India today "strongly" denied that it was obstructing the SAARC process as alleged by Pakistan.
The Foreign Office said India intended to participate in the March 7-8 SAARC Communication Ministers Conference, but Pakistan chose to postpone the meeting on Saturday. Pakistan, the spokesman said, had pre-empted a decision by India on attending the conference."They did the same for the (SAARC) summit, announcing a postponement a month before the event...
It obviously serves their (Pakistani) narrow political ends to make these moves and blame India for them. We understand that there were other SAARC members who had expressed their inability to send a Ministerial-level delegation to this conference." "India's commitment to the SAARC process is well known. It is Pakistan's commitment that has always been in doubt."
