Left plea to MLAs on drought

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD March 3. Nine Left parties appealed to MLAs on Monday to pressure the Government on implementing drought relief measures on a war-footing during the discussion on drought.

In a letter to members of all parties, the CPI, CPI (M), New Democracy, Unity Initiative, MCPI, Liberation, Jana Shakti, ML Committee and SUCI committees urged them to realise the gravity of the situation and force the Government to mitigate the problems of people.

Food for Work Programme, gruel centres, supply of fodder and drinking water, repairs to borewells, distribution of ration cards, halt to forcible collection of power and loan dues, insurance and ex gratia were some of the measures that should be implemented immediately. Waiver of tuition fee and drought pensions must also be extended, the parties said.
