Bid on ex-MLA: Cong. seeks arrest of culprits

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR MARCH 3. The District Congress Committee staged a dharna in front of the office of the Superintendent of Police here on Monday demanding action against the culprits who made a bid on the life of the former Gorantla legislator, P. Ravindra Reddy. The DCC also demanded action against the Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development, N. Kistappa, alleging that he had a role in the attack and against the Circle Inspector, Pulla Reddy, charging that he was hand-in-glove with the ruling party leaders.

Hundreds of party workers, including women, reached here on Monday morning from the Gorantla constituency. They took out a rally from the DCC office to the SP's office, but were not allowed inside. They held a protest outside the gate.

Speaking at the site, the DCC president, A. Venkatarami Reddy, alleged that the TDP leaders had been victimising Congress leaders and activists since 1994. Excesses like harassing Congress leaders and workers and foisting cases against them were talking place on a large scale particularly in the Penukonda, Tadipatri, Dharmavaram and Kalyanadurg segments, he noted.

The party had protested extensively when the two mandal parishad presidents belonging to it were killed allegedly by the TDP leaders last year. A delegation of the Congress had also met the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, on the issue and got an assurance that measures would be taken so that such incidents were not repeated. But, the TDP leaders were continuing their game unabatedly, he charged.
