NGOs urged to help in drought relief

By Our Staff Reporter

KURNOOL March 3. The District Collector, G. Sai Prasad, on Monday sought the cooperation of non-Governmental organisations (NGOs) in providing succour to the drought-affected people in the district.

Addressing a seminar on `Drought Management' organised by NOVOK in collaboration with the district administration here, he said the district was reeling under drought for the third consecutive year.

The poor were the worst hit by while drinking water shortage, employment, fodder shortage and rising prices of essential commodities were important issues during a drought year.

He said the Government agencies had resolved to provide support to people to face the drought and asked the NGOs also to help. He said prices of agriculture commodities were declining because of the effects of globalisation.

He said information regarding various schemes in force by the Government would be provided to NGOs for effective implementation.
