Assembly mourns ex-legislators

Bangalore March 3 . The Legislative Assembly today mourned the death of some former legislators, the India-born astronaut, Kalpana Chawla, the film star, Pandari Bai, and the former legislature secretary, Te.Hanumanthappa, and observed a minute's silence as a mark of respect after recalling their services to their respective fields.

A reference was made by the Speaker, M.V.Venkatappa, as soon as the House met.

The Chief Minister S.M.Krishna, the Leader of the Opposition, Jagadish Shettar, the JD (U) Floor Leader, P.G.R.Sindhia, Chandrakanth Bellad and Yogish Bhat (BJP), S.S.Patil and C.Byre Gowda (JD-U), Vijayakumar Shetty (Congress), and K.M.Krishna Murthy (JD-S) associated themselves with the sentiments expressed by the Chair.

A suggestion was made by one of the members for instituting an award after Chawla for adventure.

The former legislators to whom reference was made were B.M.Menasinakai, the former MLC and MP, Lokaiah Shetty, S.Anjaiah, and A.M.Suryanarayana Gowda, former MLAs, and K.R.Srinivasan, former member of the Mysore Representative Assembly.

The House also paid tributes to Hanumanthappa.
