S.N. Dharma Samajam under receiver rule

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI MARCH 3. The District Magistrate today placed the administration of the Sree Narayana Dharma Samajam at Ayyappankavu under receiver rule following the ongoing dispute between two factions regarding the administration of the Samajam.

The District Collector, Gyanesh Kumar, who is also District Magistrate, passed the order to this effect following a report from the police that a tense and volatile situation prevailed in the area on Sunday. They also apprehended that the situation may run out of control leading to a law and order issue.

The Ernakulam Village officer, Ramachandran Pillai, is the receiver.

The Fort Kochi RDO, P. Sivasankaran Nair, and Kanayannoor Tahsildar, M. I. Francis, were present at the Samajam office when the receiver took over the Samajam administration.

The order said that receiver rule would continue until further orders from the District Magistrate or any other court of law or an amicable settlement was arrived at between the contending factions.

The ad hoc committee, opposed to the existing administrators, convened a general body meeting and election today.

As the entry to the Pachalam auditorium was prevented by locking the gate, the ad hoc committee held its meeting before the gate and elected new office-bearers.

As the new office-bearers walked into the office building, the ad hoc committee members left the office giving way to the new office-bearers.

A large posse of police was posted at the venue of the Samajam fearing unruly incidents. The police team was led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, V. G. Sasidharan. Later, the Commissioner of Police, Vinod Thomas, visited the site and monitored the security arrangements.

The Samajam secretary, K. V. Satyapalan, called upon the community members to fight those secessionist forces who had created the situation for the take-over of the temple administration.
