Rlys. urged to improve facilities at Raichur station

By Our Staff Correspondent

Raichur March 3. The BJP has urged the South Central Railway (SCR) to improve the passenger amenities at the Raichur railway station and introduce direct trains from Raichur to Bangalore, Mysore, and Hubli.

A team of BJP leaders led by N. Shankarappa, State unit General Secretary of the party, held a meeting with the General Manager of the SCR, Secunderabad, Sangla, who was here today on an inspection of railway stations between Wadi and Guntakal.

They discussed the infrastructure needed at the railway station here, and the problems faced by passengers because of the cancellation and diversion of a number of trains after the commissioning of the Konkan Railway line.

In a memorandum submitted to Mr. Sangla, they demanded the construction of a flyover at the railway cross near the Vidya Bharati School in the station area for the safe movement of vehicles and schoolchildren.

It demanded that the Nanded-Bangalore Link Express train (6591/6592) be extended to Mysore. It said coaches were now attached to the Hubli-Bangalore Hampi Express at the Guntakal junction. The memorandum sought the reintroduction of the Ajmeer-Bangalore Express and the Tiruchi-Ahmedabad Express via Raichur. Both trains were cancelled following the commissioning of the Konkan Railway.

Explaining the difficulties faced by the passengers due to the lack of basic amenities at the railway station here, the memorandum demanded the construction of toilets on the third and fourth platforms. It said roofs for the platforms should be constructed, and sought the introduction of voice response system for enquiries at the railway station. An additional phone line for enquiries was needed, it added.

Mohan Agarwal, member of the district executive committee of the party, was present.
