Seminar on social work from Friday

MANGALORE MARCH 3. Karavali College here will organise a seminar on "Social work: Emerging trends and future prospects", on Friday and Saturday. Around 500 delegates from South India, including students and lecturers from postgraduate institutes of social work and departments of sociology and political science, are expected to participate. At a press conference here on Monday, S. Ganesh Rao, Chairman and Founder of G.R. Education Trust, said human resources professionals and consultants in the corporate sector had been invited for the seminar. The sessions included those on "Emerging trends in social work", "Role of non-governmental organisations in rural development through women's empowerment", and "Globalisation challenges to human resource".

Shridhar G., Head of the Department of Social Work and Rural Development, Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Andhra Pradesh, H.M. Panchaksharaiah, Reader, Department of Sociology, Kuvempu University, Shimoga, P. Mondal, Reader, Department of Medical and Psychiatric Social Work, TATA Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, M.N. Kulkarni, AGM, (HRD), HMT, Bangalore, and K.B. Akhilesh of the Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore, would present papers on these topics.

The district in-charge minister, B. Ramanath Rai, will inaugurate the seminar at the Ravindra Kala Bhavan in University College. The former Minister for Higher Education, B.A. Mohideen, will preside over the function. At the valedictory function, the AICC General Secretary, Vayalar Ravi, the former Home Minister, P.G.R. Sindhia, and Ananthakrishna, Chairman of Karnataka Bank Ltd., will be the chief guests. B. Hanumaiah, Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University, will preside over the function.
