By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD Feb. 25.

Pakistan today released 280 Indian fishermen, languishing in its jails for over a year. The release took place in the port city of Karachi and the fishermen set off for home in their 45 boats.

The fishermen were arrested for illegal entry into Pakistani waters in the Arabian Sea. The fishermen went home after a ceremony aboard the PNS Nazim, Coast Guard ship. A.K. Sharma, First Secretary at the Indian Embassy was present.

There are still 145 more Indian fishermen in a Karachi jail. The Pakistan Foreign Office said that 70 Pakistani fishermen have been detained in India and hoped that New Delhi would reciprocate the humanitarian gesture.
