Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Special Correspondent
The Commission is understood to have detailed the nexus between politicians and the liquor mafia and made recommendations for improving the functioning of the Excise Department and continuation of the Vigilance inquiries. The Commission, in its interim report submitted in November last, had thrown light on receipt of money from the accused in the liquor tragedy, Manichen, by political leaders. This had led to action against the CPI(M) leaders, M. Satyanesan, and the CPI leader, Bharghavi Thankappan, by the respective parties. The Commission had held more than 50 sittings over the past two years and examined the Inspector General of Police, Siby Mathew, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Nithin Agarwal, and others and visited various excise checkposts for collecting evidence.
