Oil tanks topped up: Ram Naik

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI Feb. 25. The Petroleum Minister, Ram Naik, today said oil companies had already topped up their tankages to meet the country's requirements for oil in the event of a U.S.-Iraq conflict. "We have put in place a contingency plan to meet all eventualities."

He said crude oil inventory was currently for about 23 days, petrol for 53 days, diesel for 43 days, kerosene for 51 days, LPG for 19 days and aviation turbine fuel for 88 days.

According to Mr. Naik, who completed 25 years in public life today, two months' crude oil supplies had been contracted on forward basis from countries beyond the conflict zone in West Asia to meet any disruption in supplies in case of war in the region.
