By Mohandas Menon
** The catch of Patel was Kumar Sangakkara's 50th in 49 matches while keeping wickets. He becomes only the second Sri Lankan 'keeper to reach this landmark after Romesh Kaluwitharana (127 catches). ** Steve Tikolo became the first batsman from a non-Test playing nation to aggregate 1500 runs in LOIs. Playing in his 54th match he now has 1503 runs. ** The partnership of 45 runs between Kennedy Obuya and Brijal Patel was the best for the 2nd wicket for Kenya against Sri Lanka bettering the earlier record of a paltry 10 runs between Dipak Chudasama and Ravindu Shah at Southampton on 30-5-1999. ** The 29-runs partnership between K. Obuya and Steve Tikolo was the best for the 3rd wicket for Kenya against Sri Lanka eclipsing the previous best of 23 runs between Ravindu Shah & S. Tikolo at Southampton on 30-5-1999. ** The partnership of 40 runs between Hitesh Modi and Maurice Odumbe was the best for the 5th wicket for Kenya against Sri Lanka bettering the previous best of 34 runs between Modi and Sandeep Gupta at this same venue on 28-9-1996. ** The three wickets by Chaminda Vaas takes his tally in the World Cup (WC) to 25. He becomes the first Sri Lankan and the 18th bowler in WC history to reach this landmark. ** Muttiah Muralitharan's 4-28 was the best performance by a Sri Lankan spinner in the WC bettering the previous best of 3-12 by Sanath Jayasuriya against India at Calcutta on 13-3-1996. ** The wicket of Atapattu was Thomas Odoyo's 50th in 54 matches. He becomes the first Kenyan and first bowler from a non-Test playing nation to reach this landmark. Meanwhile he also becomes the 139th bowler in LOIs to take 50-or-more wickets. ** Collins Obuya (5-24) has now recorded the best bowling figures for Kenya in LOIs and WC. He betters the previous best figures of 5-33 by Aasif Karim against Bangladesh also at this venue on 10-10-1997. He also eclipses the previous best bowling performance by a Kenyan bowler in the WC. Thomas Odoyo had figures of 4-28 against Canada at Cape Town on 15-2-2003. ** C. Obuya's performance was the best by any spin bowler against Sri Lanka in LOIs. England's off-spinner Vic Marks had figures of 5-39 at Taunton on 11-6-1983, while another right arm leg-spinner Pakistani Abdul Qadir had claimed 5-44 at Leeds on 16-6-1983. ** C. Obuya's performance was also the best in the WC by any bowler against Sri Lanka. New Zealand's paceman Richard Hadlee had figures of 5-25 at Bristol in the 1983 WC on 13-6-1983. ** Though C. Obuya's figures are the ninth best by a bowler in WC history, it was the second best performance by a spinner in the competition. Another leg-spinner Zimbabwean Paul Strang has the best figures of 5-21, which came against the Kenyans at Patna on 27-2-1996. ** This was the seventh defeat of a Test nation by a non-Test playing country in the WC. The full list Sri Lanka beat India in 1979, Zimbabwe beat Australia in 1992, Zimbabwe beat England in 1992, Kenya beat West Indies in 1996, Bangladesh beat Pakistan in 1999, Canada beat Bangladesh in 2003 and Kenya beat Sri Lanka in 2003
