By Our Staff Reporter

ADILABAD FEB 25. In a shocking incident, an unidentified miscreant stabbed a bank employee and decamped with Rs. 7 lakhs in front of the Adilabad District Cooperative Central Bank (ADCCB) branch in Mancherial town on Tuesday.

The Mancherial DSP, Venkateswara Rao, said the ADCCB cashier, Janardhan and attender, Mukthar, collected Rs. 7 lakhs from the currency chest and got ready to deposit the same in the State

Bank of Hyderabad branch in the town. The duo came out of the bank premises and was taking out the scooter to go to the SBH when an unidentified man came and tried to snatch the cash bag from the attender.

The attender resisted his attempts but the miscreant whipped out a knife and stabbed him. The attender collapsed leaving the cash bag. The miscreant picked up the bag and started fleeing. The cashier, who saw his colleague in a pool of blood chased the culprit but could not nab him. The miscreant allegedly ran into a narrow lane besides the bank and joined his friend, who was waiting on a two-wheeler.

Even before the passersby could react, the duo vanished with the cash. The DSP said the ADCCB staff regularly collected the daily cash and deposited the same in the SBH branch. Usually, the staff took the cash in autorickshaw but today the staff preferred a two-wheeler. The police maintained that the bank staff did not take proper precaution which resulted in the crime.

Mr. Venkateswara Rao said the police suspected the role of some professional gang in the incident. He did not rule out the hand of some former naxals also. A case was registered by the Mancherial police and manhunt launched to nab the culprit.
