Videography to check tax evasion by transport vehicles soon

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD Feb. 25. Intensifying its efforts to check illegal transport of goods without paying sales tax, the State Government is contemplating introduction of videographing of transport vehicles at all inter-state checkposts. A pilot project of the new system wherein the goods being transported would be videographed to avoid tax evasion is proposed to be launched at Tada in Nellore and Ichchapuram in Srikakulam shortly.

Announcing this in reply to a query by the Congress member, M.V Mysura Reddy and others during the Question Hour in the Assembly on Tuesday, the Minister for Commercial Taxes, K Vijayarama Rao, admitted that there were some leakages in the inter-state checkposts and in view of this, the Government had initiated steps to install computers at all checkposts for online information about vehicle movement.

Referring to a recent incident wherein the Vigilance and Enforcement sleuths busted a fake "C'' and "F'' forms racket in the city, the Minister admitted that the dairies seized from the culprits also contained the names of some police and commercial tax officials. The Government had already ordered a comprehensive probe into the matter. The Minister conceded Mr Mysura Reddy's demand that the Government make public the names of the officials involved in the racket and announced that all the details pertaining to the racket would be put before the Assembly shortly.

Quota for disabled

Stating that the Government would initiate stringent action against the officials not implementing reservations to the physically handicapped, the Minister for School Education, M Venkateswara Rao, said that the department would look into the alleged violations of the rule of reservation to physically handicapped in Srikakulam district.

Replying to a query by the ruling party member, P Varalakshmi, the Minister admitted that several irregularities in the appointment of physically handicapped persons were also noticed in Warangal and Nalgonda districts and that the Government had already initiated action in the matter. He said strict orders had been issued to all departments on the implementation of 3 per cent reservations to the physically handicapped.
