`Yeshasvini' launch cancelled

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore Feb. 25. The function to mark the formal launch of `Yeshasvini', a cooperative health insurance scheme for farmers of the State, was cancelled today.

The abrupt cancellation of the function organised by the National Insurance Company Ltd. stunned several representatives of farmers who had been invited to witness the signing of the memorandum of agreement between the Government and the company.

Neither the officials of the Department of Information nor the presspersons had any prior intimation of the cancellation. They learned about it only when they contacted an official in the Chief Minister's secretariat after finding the conference hall in the Vidhana Soudha, the venue for the function, locked at the scheduled time.

According to an official who chanced to come to the venue later, the decision to cancel the function was taken on Monday evening.
