Letters to the Editor
Sir, This has reference to the news report "UDF rejects demand for judicial probe" (Feb. 24). The UDF Government in Kerala was too liberal in dealing with the adivasis' agitation. This attitude encouraged the tribals to encroach into the forest reserves. It appears that the adivasis have a false notion that the whole forest belongs to them. Though there was widespread criticism about the police firing in Muthanga, yet it was necessary to save the life of the captives. The Government is bound to give land to all landless tribals. At the same time, encroachers should be evicted immediately.
