Common heritage

Sir, — Apropos the news report about the VHP warning all of dire consequences if the disputed land in Ayodhya is not handed over to it for construction of a Ram temple (Feb. 22): It is time that people called a halt to the bloody game the VHP and other Sangh Parivar outfits are playing in the name of God. The very concept of claiming places of worship of Muslims for purposes of demolition and construction of Hindu temples on their ruins is abhorrent, mischievous and un-Hindu. This is not religion. Such thinking is fallacious and insane. The mosques on which the VHP is laying a claim no longer belong to the medieval invaders but to Indians. They are India's heritage. To think in terms of "we and they", "ours and theirs" is unpatriotic.

T.S. Rao,
Visakhapatnam, A.P.
