Tamil Nadu-Chennai
By Our Special Correspondent
The police have announced a cash reward of Rs. 50,000 for any information leading to the arrest of the `credit card gangsters' who struck on successive days robbing two businessmen in separate incidents. Investigation also revealed that the motorcycle used by the gangsters to intercept the victim was a stolen vehicle. The gangsters had changed the number plates. While a three-member gang intercepted the car of a music shop owner at Adyar on Monday and robbed him of his cash, two members of the same gang struck again the following day and kidnapped a dubbing studio owner from Vadapalani. In both the incidents the gangsters took the victims to ATM centres to withdraw cash. While in the first case there was no cash as the limit had been reached, in the second incident they took away Rs. 11,000. The City Police Commissioner, K. Vijay Kumar, has formed a special team comprising the JCP (South), J.K. Tripathy, and the DCP (T.Nagar), K.P. Shunmugharajeswaran, to track down the gangsters. The police have stepped up night patrolling exercise in the city with intensive vehicle checks.
