Tamil Nadu-Chennai
By Our Staff Reporter
The Chromepet police identified the victim as Krishnamurthy. The incident occurred at 3.30 a.m. when a lorry dashed against one of the pillars of the bridge, which is under construction. Krishnamurthy, who was seriously injured on the head was referred to the Chennai GH, where he died at 10.25 a.m. Three others travelling in the lorry were seriously injured and have been identified as Ravi, Viji and Radhakrishnan. Residents of nagars around Chromepet and Pallavaram complained that poor lighting on the stretch of the GST Road where the construction of the bridge has been dragging on for months, caused many accidents. Further, sufficient safety measures have not been taken here, where the GST Road narrowed down, they said. The police could enhance safety by painting the pillars with reflective paint and installing more lights, they said.
