Naxals chased out of village

By Our Staff Reporter

ADILABAD FEB. 13 . Several villagers chased four PW naxals and managed to snatch a country made weapon from them and beat up an extremist in Gangapur village under Kadam police station limits in the early hours of today.

High drama prevailed in the highly naxal-affected Gangapur village for more than two hours in the early hours today when a four-member PW dalam came to the house of a kirana shop owner, Chakali Sattaiah. The naxals forced a villager to accompany them to knock at the doors of Sattaiah. On hearing the knock, Sattaiah came out only to be caught by the naxals.

The family members, who saw the four naxals, raised an alarm following which the neighbours woke up. The villagers then started chasing the naxals, who sensed trouble and tried to escape. The villagers numbering around 100 ran after the naxals till the village outskirts and managed to nab one of them and seized his weapon. He was given a sound thrashing resulting in severe injuries.

The locals then asked the injured extremist to take them to the dalam so that they would hold discussions. The bleeding naxals took the villagers upto 2 km but could not find the squad members. On not finding the dalam, the villagers gave him another round of thrashing and continued to force him to reveal the whereabouts of the dalam.

Even as the villagers were taking the injured naxal and searching for the other members of the dalam, they came under fire. The naxals, who had escaped from the village fired six rounds forcing the villagers to retreat. The locals, who were frightened by the firing let off the injured naxal but managed to retain the country made tapancha. The naxals then took away their injured colleague into the forests.
