Proceedings against Veerasamy stayed

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI FEB. 13. The Madras High Court today stayed all further proceedings in a defamation case filed by the Chief Minister,

Jayalalithaa, against the former DMK Minister, Arcot N. Veerasamy, for his alleged utterances against her in the wake of assault of the former Chief Secretary, T.V. Venkataraman.

Justice V. Kanagaraj granted the interim injunction on an appeal from Mr. Veerasamy seeking to quash the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's order dated January 21 rejecting his petition to permit his counsel represent him for questioning.

The judge also ordered notice to Ms. Jayalalithaa, returnable by February 21.
