Drive against hoarding of rectified spirit continues

Pondicherry Feb. 13. The Excise department officials, currently on a drive to eradicate illicit distillation of arrack and hoarding of rectified spirit in the Union Territory, have seized 1065 litres of rectified spirit in the last three days, and arrested four persons in this connection.

The officials recovered 635 litres from a residential premises at Sami Pillai Thottam in Lawspet block on Wednesday.

The Deputy Commissioner of Excise, R. Anbalagan, said the officials today seized 205 litres of the rectified spirit and arrested two persons when they tried to transport the consignment by a car from a house at Ashok Nagar.

The vehicle and the brew were seized.
