Cong. sees Vajpayee-VHP collusion

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI FEB. 13. The Congress today accused the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, of colluding with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. "He is hand-in-glove with them to subvert the law of the land," the party spokesperson, Jaipal Reddy, said.

"Their goals are identical, though they adopt different tactics from time to time," he added.

Mr. Reddy said the main strategy of the BJP and its affiliates was designed to advance the communal agenda "in instalments... The BJP moves are dictated by that strategy".

Voicing his party's suspicion over the Government decision to move the Supreme Court, he said: "The BJP has moved the court in order to make the entire land available to the VHP."

The NDA allies also came in for criticism, with Mr. Reddy describing them as "dependents" of the BJP. "Since 2000, the NDA allies are dependents of the BJP and cannot be considered as defenders of secularism." They had lost their voice and ceased to matter. "Its virtually a BJP Government now."
