Missile test will escalate tension: Pak.

By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD FEB. 13. The Pakistan Minister for Information and Media Development, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, has dubbed the latest Indian missile test as a sign of `extremism' and urged the world community to take note of it.

Mr. Rashid is the `instant reaction' Minister in the Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali Government, particularly on matters related to New Delhi. A letter in one of the English dailies had suggested that he be designated as `India condemnation' Minister.

He said the Brahmos test along with series of other tests conducted by India in recent days would usher in "a new era of arms race that would further escalate tensions in the region". "This test comes at a time when the world is facing a serious crisis and all countries are looking towards Iraq. India has chosen this time deliberately, but it cannot take mileage by doing so. Neither can it provoke us nor deter us by such deceptions.'' He maintained that India was "gravely mistaken" if it believed that it can achieve `hegemonic designs through such orchestrations'.
