Oppose U.S. move on Iraq, workers told

BANGALORE Feb. 13. A three-day national conference of the Trade Union Coordination Centre, which began here today, called upon the working class to oppose the U.S. move to attack Iraq.

Representatives from Iraq, Korea, Bangadesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka are attending the conference.

The All India Forward Block General Secretary and Rajya Sabha Member, Debabrata Biswas, who inaugurated the conference, condemned the BJP-led NDA Government for its economic policies and said the policies were being dictated by the World Bank and the WTO.

He lashed out at the U.S. for its move to attack Iraq and called upon peace-loving people to condemn the U.S. The TUCC Chairman, K.Velappan Nair, unfurled the flag.

The foreign delegates included Jamil S.Ahmed Al-Jubour, Karim A. Hamzah (Iraq), Quamrul Ahsan, Majirul Islaam Liton (Bangladesh), Kim Jong Sok, Ri Yong Nam (Korea, DPRK), Amara Singhe (Sri Lanka), Ganesh Shah, and Sunil Manandhar (Nepal).

The CITU National Secretary, Balakrishna, and the AITUC National Secretary, Nageshwara Rao, were present.

The General Secretary of the Karnataka State Committee of the Trade Union Coordination Centre, G.R.Shivashankar, said the conference would adopt important political and economic resolutions on Saturday.
