'Grants only for 10 years'

Bangalore Feb. 13. The Minister of State for Kannada and Culture, Rani Satish, today said that henceforth grants to arts and cultural institutions would be for 10 years only.

She told presspersons that several organisations had got grants for a number of years, but this would change from now on.

The department would provide grants for 10 years by which time these institutions should become self-sufficient.

She mentioned that this year grants had been given to Adarsha Film Institute (Rs. 13 lakh), Vijaya Film Institute (Rs. 11.25 lakh), Ninasam, Shimoga (Rs. 12 lakh), Karnataka Janapada Parishat (Rs. 15 lakh), Rangayana, Mysore (Rs. 40 lakh), and Vidya Vardhaka Sangha (Rs. six lakh).

She said that for the Kannada Sahitya Sammelan, the department gave a grant of Rs. 15 lakh and it was for the Kannada Sahitya Parishat to organise the same as and when it wanted.
