Letters to the Editor
Sir, The proposed national plan to link rivers is complex. The project, which aims to divert surplus water for use by industries and homes, is urgently needed but its cost of Rs. 5.6 trillion and its planned completion in 2015 could work against it. Changes in the political scenario at the Centre and the States in the interim and the time taken to resolve inter-State disputes could derail the project. Micro and mini water harvest techniques and desilting of water sources will prove to be more sustainable in water deficit areas.
