Naidu lays stone for Singapore-class township

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD Feb. 12. The Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for Singapore-class township to be developed by the A.P. Housing Board (APHB) at Pocharam, abutting the Hyderabad- Warangal highway, 18 km from here.

The township will be built by CESMA International, a subsidiary of Housing and Development Board of Singapore Government, on 723.25 acres. The first phase programme involves construction of 2,080 MIG (1,100 sq.ft) and HIG (1400 sq.ft) apartments on 82.31 acres.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Naidu hoped that the world-class construction of Singapore would be replicated at Pocharam. He asked the real estate dealers not to jack up land prices in view of the coming up of the township. The land value was in any case bound to shoot up with the business processing outsourcing companies setting up units in the area.

Mr. Naidu promised introduction of metro express train to Hyderabad, which would connect Pocharam in the future. Mr. Naidu discussed the issue with the Union Minister concerned during a recent visit to Delhi.

The Chief Minister lauded the reputation of CESMA International and said their experience would help in completing the project in one-and-a-half years. He also said the townships in Singapore constructed by the company were a marvel. He regarded the areas in Ranga Reddy district skirting the city as potential places for many important projects.

The Home Minister, T. Devender Goud, in whose Medchal Assembly constituency falls Pocharam, urged the extension of multi-model transport system train up to Ghatkesar, which was 2 km from Pocharam. He said farmers around Uppal were prepared to give up their lands for the construction of roads and other infrastructure.

The Housing Minister, P. Ramasubba Reddy, the CESMA president, Low Seng Poh, the Siddipet MP, M. Rajaiah, the APHB Chairman, M. Rajeswara Rao, the Vice-Chairman, K. V. Ramanachary, and the Principal Secretary, Housing, T. K. Dewan, also spoke.
