Senior Congress leader passes away

NEW DELHI FEB. 12. Senior Congress leader and former Member of the Metropolitan Council, Manohar Lal Khurana, died this morning after a prolonged illness. He was 53.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters. His wife, Madhu Khurana, is a sitting Congress Councillor from the Paharganj zone.

Last rites were performed at Nigambodh Ghat this afternoon. The funeral was attended by the AICC general secretary, Kamal Nath; the DPCC president, Subhash Chopra; the Leader of the House in MCD, Ram Babu Sharma; former MPs Sajjan Kumar, J.P. Aggarwal and Jagdish Tytler; and the MCD Commissioner, Rakesh Mehta.

Expressing grief over the demise of the Congress leader, Mr. Chopra said Mr. Khurana was known to forcefully raise issues concerning the people as a member of the Metropolitan Council. He said the party had lost a dedicated soldier and the vacuum would be hard to fill.
