Take steps to evacuate Keralites: Pinarayi

By Our Staff Reporter

THRISSUR FEB. 12. The CPI(M) State secretary, Pinarayi Vijayan, has accused the State Government of not giving serious thought to the issue of evacuating Keralites stranded in the Gulf in the event of a U.S.-Iraq war.

Inaugurating the reception office of the pro-CPI(M) Karshaka Thozhilali Union here today in connection with its all-India conference scheduled in April, Mr. Vijayan said many Keralites would be returning to the State like what had happened during the Kuwait war in the early Nineties. ``Keralites in Kuwait and the neighbouring Gulf countries are a worried lot now. Does the Centre or the State Government take any steps in this regard? Is it not time to contact the Embassy there and bring those who are ready to return? The State Government is not concerned even after understanding that the remittances from the Gulf countries which have played a key role in building up the Kerala economy are affected.''

Dwelling upon the recent moves by the Sang Parivar to woo tribals and agriculture workers, he said the RSS, upholders of the `Chathurvarna' caste system, is now trying to attract farm workers, majority of whom were sidelined in the past. ``A recent meeting held in Wayanad, where the RSS chief, Sudarshan, had addressed a tribal meeting, was an attempt to woo the tribals with Government and foreign money. This section is being wooed by the Sang Parivar under the guise of attracting the entire Hindu community. The Sangh Parivar is bent upon creating communal clashes in the country and building up their organisations.''

Commenting that the UDF Government is in the chains of casteist and religious forces, he said the Government's all `anti-people' steps are deliberate. This Government was created for taking such steps. The casteist and religious forces which were behind the formation of this Government sometimes used to prop up their heads in public. ``Will any Government issue No Objection Certificate (NOC) to all those who apply for education institutions,'' he asked.

The all-India secretary of the union, A. Vijayaraghavan, was among those who spoke.
