MLA's arrest: MSR warns of stir

By Our Staff Reporter

YADAGIRIGUTTA (NALGONDA DT.) FEB.12. The Pradesh Congress Committee pesident, M. Satyanarayana Rao, has warned of launching a State-wide agitation in protest against the arrest of the Kollapur MLA, Jupalli Krishna Rao, by the Mahabubnagar police late last night.

Addressing the party activists here on Wednesday after launching the membership drive of the Alair and Bhongir constituencies, Mr. Rao said the Government would be responsible for the "dire consequences'' that could follow. "All our MLAs and party leaders will participate in the massive agitation against the arrest if the case is not withdrawn. This is my warning to Chandrababu Naidu.''

He also alleged that an assistant engineer hailing from Andhra was responsible for the arrest of the MLA.

The PCC president took the Chief Minister to task "for levelling charges and making accusations against the Congress despite the fact that the Congress had given him political life.'' Mr. Rao said he had pressured Indira Gandhi to get a Ministerial berth to Mr. Naidu in the late Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Cabinet.

Objecting to the borrowing spree and subsequent spending on "unproductive things'' when the State was reeling under drought, Mr. Rao said the Chief Minister had turned the "Annapurna Andhra Pradesh'' to "Appula Andhra Pradesh.''

Talking to reporters after having darshan of Narasimha Swamy, Mr. Rao said the party would question the Government's "lackadaisical attitude'' in helping out people at this critical juncture. "This Government does not deserve to be there (in power),'' he commented.

Asked if his party would forge an alliance with the Communists to fight the TDP, Mr. Rao said a decision had been taken to launch a combined fight demanding solution to people's problems.
