AAI official held for graft

CHENNAI FEB. 12. The Assistant General Manager, Engineering (Civil), Airports Authority of India, International Airport Division here, was caught allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000 from a contractor yesterday.

The officer demanded and accepted the first instalment, for clearing bills of the contractor's firm for works already executed. A search of the AGM's office yielded the pending bills. Personnel of the Central Bureau of Investigation searched the house of the officer at Alwar Thirunagar here, according to a CBI release. The CBI has renewed its appeal to the public to pass on information on any act of corruption indulged in by public servants. (Phone 28273186, 28270992, 28251798, 28255899 and 28206200.)
