The police produced him in the court as the MLA refused to sign a personal bond for bail. The Magistrate sent him for judicial remand up to February 25. When the Magistrate asked Mr. Rao whether he wanted to go to Hyderabad jail as there were no facilities in Mahabubnagar jail the latter opted for Mahabubnagar jail agreeing to avail himself of the same facilities that were provided to ordinary accused persons. Earlier, there was tension in Nagarkurnool and Kollapur towns where a bandh was observed in protest against the arrest of the MLA. Congressmen also staged a dharna in front of Nagarkurnool police station for about 2 hours. Meanwhile, the State Youth Congress secretary and a follower of the MLA, Narender Reddy, attempted to immolate himself at Kollapur protesting against the arrest. The MLA was held on a complaint by an Assistant Engineer of APTransco, Qasim Saheb, that he had abused and obstructed him from discharging his official duties.
