Yashwant Sinha to visit Russia

MOSCOW FEB. 12. The External Affairs Minister, Yashwant Sinha, will visit Russia on February 19 and 20 to discuss bilateral and international issues, the RIA Novosti news agency has said.

Mr. Sinha will meet the Foreign Minister, Igor Ivanov, the Defence Minister, Sergei Ivanov, and the Minister for Industry, Science and Technology, Ilya Klebanov, who co-chairs with Mr. Sinha the Intergovernmental Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific-Technical and Cultural Cooperation between the two countries.

Diplomatic sources said the visit reflected the dynamic momentum imparted to Indo-Russian ties by the December visit to India of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin. Last month, the Defence Minister, George Fernandes, held crucial talks in Moscow; next month, the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, is expected to visit Russia, and in May the Prime Minister, A.B.Vajpayee, will attend the celebrations of the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg, Russia's "northern capital.''
