Fire at Senate hall triggers off panic

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM FEB. 7. The curtains at the University Senate Hall caught fire, creating panic among the students, teachers and parents who had assembled there for the annual day celebrations of the St. Shanthal UPS.

The incident occurred at 9-15 p.m. when the satin curtain on the right side of the stage caught fire while the students were presenting cultural programmes. No one has been injured. The fire was immediately brought under control as the parents and teachers poured the water in plastic pots, which were brought from the school for a dance programme. Police said the fire might have been due to the excessive heat generated from the halogen spotlight placed adjacent to the curtain on the stage.
