NEW DELHI FEB. 7. The Punjab Chief Minister, Amarinder Singh, today hit back at the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Prem Kumar Dhumal, and threatened to file a `counter-defamation suit' against him.

Following up the disclosure that the Himachal Chief Minister and his relatives had assets worth Rs. 25 crores in Punjab, Capt. Amarinder Singh said the State Government had details of these properties. On Thursday, Mr. Dhumal had filed criminal complaints against the Punjab Chief Minister and two other senior party leaders against the Congress claim.

Addressing a press conference here, the Punjab Chief Minister said Mr. Dhumal had filed the complaint to `save face.' He said the Congress leaders, Motilal Vora and Anand Sharma, had made details of Mr. Dhumal's assets public based on information collected by the Government.

"I would file a counter-defamation suit in Jalandhar. I know Mr. Dhumal has filed the charges only to misguide the people. He would withdraw the case once the election in Himachal is over,'' he said.

All that the Congress wanted to know from the Chief Minister was the manner in which these properties were acquired, considering that he was an LIC worker and a lecturer before he moved to politics, Capt. Singh said.

The Punjab Chief Minister said he would welcome any investment in the State or opening a school as was done by the Chief Minister's family members.
